INSIGHT: ONE TREE ONE BEAT

Naziha Mestaoui, part of the duo Electronic Shadow has done it again. Pushing the boundaries of technology and sensory experiences, her current project, ‘One Tree One Beat’ inspires us to stay innovative!

For the 21st Climate Conference in Paris that will take place in December 2015, Belgian artist Naziha Mestaoui will project ‘One Beat One Tree’ onto the city’s famed monuments. The installation bridges the virtual and reality, technology and nature, as well as what is visible and invisible. spectators to the artwork are granted the opportunity to create a digital tree that they will be able to see growing on buildings in rhythm with their heart, via a heartbeat sensor controlled through a smartphone. the computerized tree is then actually planted in europe, latin america, africa or asia rendering ‘each citizen a co-creator of our collective future beyond individualism,’ expressed the artist. HOAG DOCTORS DAY

AKJOHNSTON produced and managed Hoag Hospital’s annual Doctors Day event last Friday June 20th at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach. To entertain an audience of 1,000, AKJOHNSTON created a modern moonlit jazz club complete with a seven person jazz band that alternated between a male and female vocalist. Real eucalyptus trees with cascading glass spheres filled with votives then uplit, casted shadows on the ceiling and floor creating a moonlight effect. Over 40 LED uplights were brought in for a stunning atmosphere and our own ModDim panels were brought in to create the backdrop of the stage.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

GRAVITY PRIVATE SCREENING

Earlier this month we produced Hoag Hospital Foundation’s 27th Annual Summer Movie Classic at The Hangar located at the OC Fairgrounds. Attendees were treated to a tasting from over 30 of the Orange County’s finest restaurants, followed by a private screening of Gravity. In alignment to the theme of the movie, AKJOHNSTON lit up the 50 foot arched ceiling with our sharpys, creating an celestial atmosphere. The event took place on June 11th, 2014.ImageImageImageImageImage

INSIGHT: ARCHITECTURE WITH A PURPOSE

A truly inspiring architectural design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional! Designed by Italian architectural firm, Nemesi & Partners, the Italian Pavilion will purify the surrounding atmosphere and generate energy with the installment of photovoltaic glass. With 9,000 square meters of photocatalytic concrete–a type of material that breaks down nitric and nitrogen oxides when exposed to sunlight–the façade of the building will act as a giant smog filter. Green building designs have become more common than ever and it will be interesting to see how these innovative designs will be adapted into the lives of everyday consumers in the coming decade.

GIBSON DUNN’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY

One of the several events AKJOHNSTON produced last week was Gibson Dunn’s 50th Anniversary Party hosted at Shady Canyon Golf Club in Irvine, California.  The elegant fete took place in the afternoon and into the evening as guests were treated to stunning food and beverage, a solo guitarist and several great vignettes designed by the AKJOHNSTON Group.

On the stage, we laser-cut the client’s logo onto dimensional set pieces for elegant branding of the space.  Opposite, we printed 50 historical images of Orange County and affixed them to 32′ of our live hedge walls!  Additionally, we edited HD video content and looped photos, logos and historical video on two 80″ LCD screens.

Overall, our client and their guests were loving the ambiance and atmosphere created by a great venue, vibe and lighting as the night went on!  AKJOHNSTON designed and managed the function with Shady Canyon Golf Club, in addition to providing video editing, graphic design and print, lighting, audio, video and staging services.
